Fearless Female Interview with Alice McDonald

What is your business and what inspired you to start your business?

My business is a coaching service that supports women going through the transitions of both ending their marriages & their children leaving the nest.

It’s both a challenging time & an opportunity to grow, rediscover, redefine & successfully rebuild their lives in a way that makes them truly happy.

I was inspired to start this business because I went through this exact experience & knew it’s where I could really make a difference. I wanted to use my knowledge & skills to make a really hard time easier for women going through these transitions.

In what ways do you promote your business and what has been the most effective thing to market your business to date?

I use Instagram & Facebook. I have used these to both connect to clients & industry experts with whom I collaborate to support women on their journey. I have participated in podcasts & contributed to online magazines.

I also have an interview series on YouTube where I create videos that may be helpful or supportive to women at any stage of their separation journey.

The most effective thing I have done to market my business has been getting really clear on my messaging, what I offer & how to communicate that – I used a business coach to support me with this. I would add to that bantering with people on social media in an authentic way, building genuine relationships is key.

What was the biggest challenge you faced in your business?

Oh my goodness! Constant self-doubt & the learning curve that is the gradient of a vertical line!

What inspires you?

I’m inspired by living a full & beautiful life & inspiring others to do the same.

When you think of being Fearless what does that mean to you?

I don’t think there is such a thing as being Fearless. I get scared when I post something that might be a little revealing, I’m afraid of being judged, I’m afraid of failing, I’m afraid of ending up a poor old woman with not enough money to turn the heating on.

If I’ve learned anything, it’s that fear is a constant companion to progress & growth – that it is a wonderful signpost for that I am on the right track for expanding myself & what is possible.

Being scared means I am growing.

Mindset is so important to running a business. What things do you do to ensure you stay motivated?

To stay motivated I connect to my whys. Why am I doing this? Why for me? Why for others? Why for the greater good?

I focus on the difference I can make by continuing to challenge myself by working with people, by inspiring them & especially for my children.

What is your biggest tip for success?

Read.

If you could pass on anything piece of advice to someone wanting to start a business what would it be?

You can do it. Look around you, there are people just like you as proof that it can be done. You are no different to them. If they can do it, so can you.
